Hand-embroidered clothing experiments featuring abstract figure forms

cover

— 2019

I began learning how to embroider by emperimenting with simple lines. Inspired by the style of artists Sofia Salazar and Salventius , I made two shirt designs featuring overlapping, abstract human forms.

To create the designs, I sketched the patterns with pencil before formalizing them digitally. I then projected and traced the patterns on to the shirt fabric. Finally, I embroidered along the traced lines.

For the past several months, I had been teaching myself how to embroider by hand. After making several practical gifts, I wanted to shift to more fine art projects. For this experiment, I wanted to combine the different stitching and knotting techniques I had learned while focusing on small details.
